The division of wealth in America

The division of wealth in America

WELCOME BACK. I HAD THE CHANCE TO TALK TO WRITER AND PHOTOGRAPHER CHRIS ABOUT HIS TRAVELS ACROSS OUR NATION DOCUMENTING THOSE FORGOTTEN MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE BEEN LEFT BEHIND BY THE COASTAL ELITE PARTICULATE.>>THIS BOOK YOU’VE WRITTEN, I WOULD MAKE SURE, THIS IS SEEKING RESPECT IN BACK WORLD AMERICA. WERE GOING TO GET INTO THAT BUT I WANT EVERYONE TO SEE THIS BOOK AND THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE WATCHING, YOU’RE ALL GOING TO ENJOY THIS BOOK BUT PARTICULARLY ANYONE IN THE POSITION OF POWER OR AUTHORITY IN GOVERNMENT AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL OR ANY LEVEL. YOU REALLY NEED TO READ THIS BOOK. IT’S INCREDIBLY POWERFUL AND WERE NOT HAVE TIME TO GET INTO ALL THE IMPORTANT INSIGHTS IN HERE, BUT LET’S JUST START WITH THE BIG PICTURE. YOU MAKE THIS DISTINCTION BETWEEN FRONT ROW AMERICA AND BACK ROW AMERICA. FRONT ROW IS HIGHLY EDUCATED ELITES, PEOPLE WHO HAVE GONE TO HARVARD, PRINCETON, YALE, POSTGRADUATE DEGREES AND AFTER THAT LIVE IN NEIGHBORHOODS THAT ARE BASICALLY FILLED WITH PEOPLE LIKE THEMSELVES.>>WHEN WE TALK ABOUT, IN TERMS OF MAPPING THAT IN THE ELITE, THAT’S REALLY THE FRONT ROW.>>THAT’S CORRECT, PEOPLE EMPOWER IN GOVERNMENT AND THE ECONOMY.>>THINK BAKERS AND POLITICIANS.>>LET’S LOOK AT THE BACKROAD PART. IT WAS REALLY STRIKING TO ME READING THIS BOOK THE REAL DEPTH OF THE PROBLEMS THAT PEOPLE IN AMERICA TODAY SUFFER. WE TALK ABOUT WORKING AMERICANS, THE WORKING POOR, ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT AN EVEN MORE SUFFERING GROUP OF THE POPULATION IN THE WORKING CLASS.>>I WOULD CALL IT THE WORKING POOR BUT IN GENERAL IT SOMEONE WHO HAS FINISHED HIGH SCHOOL, PROPERLY, BUT NOT MUCH BEYOND THAT. I THINK THE BIG DIFFERENCES WHAT DEFINES PEOPLE. SO MUCH ABOUT WHAT WE THINK IN OUR MORALITY, AT THE CORE OF EVERYTHING IS HOW EDUCATED YOU ARE.>>THERE’S AN IMAGE STRUCTURALLY THAT HAUNTED ME WHEN I WAS READING THIS BOOK. IT OCCURS TIME AND TIME AGAIN ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND IT’S THIS NOTION OF THE ELITES, THE FRONT ROW PEOPLE DESIGNING AN ECONOMIC SYSTEM THAT MADE CORPORATIONS BIGGER AND BIGGER AND MORE GLOBALIZED, THE IMPACT OF THAT IS IN SMALL TOWNS AND MEDIUM-SIZED TOWNS ACROSS AMERICA AND THE PLACES YOU VISITED, THAT LED TO THIS GENERAL COLLAPSE OF THE COMMUNITY AND THE PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE IN PLACE, AND THEN, AT THE SAME TIME THE IMPACT OF THAT FOR PEOPLE WHO DESIGN THOSE CHANGES TO MAKE THEM RICHER AND MAKE THEIR COMMUNITIES THRIVE. WHILE THE PEOPLE WHO HAD TO SUFFER THOSE POLICIES END UP WITH COMMUNITIES AND BIG-BOX RETAILERS. JUST DESCRIBE SOME OF THE PLACES WHERE YOU SAW THAT.>>IT’S ALL ACROSS AMERICA. IT’S NOT GEOGRAPHICALLY BOUND. I WOULD SAY. [INAUDIBLE] THEY GO THROUGH THESE NEIGHBORHOODS, BUT IT’S GARY INDIANA.>>JUST DESCRIBE THAT FOR A BIT WHAT YOU SAW THERE.>>IT’S WORKING CLASS AFRICAN-AMERICAN TOWN WITH STEEL MILLS, IT’S ONE THIRD OF THE CITY BOARDED UP. I DO WANT TO PICK ON GARY BECAUSE OF THE RESIDENTS THAT ARE STILL THEY ARE WONDERFUL PEOPLE AND THEY’RE DOING THEIR BEST THAT’S WHAT I TRY TO GET ACROSS, DON’T BLAME THE RESIDENTS WHO ARE IN YOUR TOWN, DON’T STIGMATIZE THE RESIDENCE FOR THE PROBLEMS THAT HAPPEN IN THE TOWN, BUT GARY, THERE ARE TIMES WHERE I WALK IN GARY AND I DON’T SEE ANYBODY. I JUST SAW BOARDED-UP HOUSES. I DIDN’T EVEN SEE, I’M USED TO BEING IN NEIGHBORHOODS WITH BOARDED-UP HOUSES BUT OFTEN THERE’S PEOPLE LIVING THERE. THERE WERE JUST EMPTY PLOTS OF LAND.>>AND DOWNTOWN GARY.>>ON SATURDAY OR SUNDAY THE CHURCHES ARE OPEN SO THAT HAS SOME ENERGY BUT OTHERWISE IT’S GENERALLY A BUNCH OF ATTEMPTS TO RE- VITALIZE GARY AND IT FAILED. THERE’S AN OLD CONVENTION CENTER THERE THAT DOESN’T GET MANY CONVENTIONS, BUT THERE’S A USUAL LIQUOR STORE, VAPE STORE AND THEN THERE’S MCDONALD’S AND ONE OF THE THINGS YOU TALKED ABOUT, WE DESIGN THESE TOWNS AND MAKE A LOT OF MONEY, WE DESIGNED AN ECONOMY ALL ABOUT BIG-BOX STORES BUT THIS IRONY, THE EVEN WORSE THINGS IS THAT WE DON’T USE THEM. WE MAKE FUN OF THE PEOPLE WHO USE THEM SO IF YOU GO INTO GARY, PEOPLE USE THE MCDONALD’S AS THEIR COMMUNITY CENTER BECAUSE IT’S THE ONE THING THAT IS THERE AN OPEN AND ALWAYS WORKING. THE ELITES BUILD THIS ECONOMY THAT FILLED GARY AND OTHER TOWNS, BAKERSFIELD, EL PASO, RENO, IT FILLS THEM WITH THESE BIG-BOX STORES, BUT THEN WE LAUGH AT PEOPLE WHO USE THE BIG BOX STORES THAT IT SOMEHOW BENEATH.>>AND THE MCDONALD’S POINT WHICH IS SO POWERFUL, IF YOU WANT TO UNDERSTAND AMERICA, GO TO MCDONALD’S. I LOVE MCDONALD’S. I CAN GO EVERY WEEK TO MCDONALD’S. ONE THING THAT STRUCK ME ABOUT PRESIDENT TRUMP AND CANDIDATE DONALD TRUMP, ONE OF THE REASONS THEY MADE FUN OF HIM WAS THAT HE LIKES MCDONALD’S AND I REMEMBER THINKING BUT THAT’S A CONNECTION WITH AMERICANS THAT THE ELITES JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND. THAT YOU’RE EMBARRASSED TO SAY I LIKE MCDONALD’S AND THE BIGGER POINT FROM THIS IS THAT WERE NOT ALLOWED TO BE PRESENT PREJUDICE ABOUT ANYTHING. EXCEPT FOR COST. IT’S PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE TO LOOK DOWN YOUR NOSE AT WORKING AMERICANS. YOU COULD MAKE FUN OF THE POOR, BASICALLY, AND YOU DO IT THESE DAYS BY MAKING FUN OF THEIR CHOICES.>>I SAID BEFORE WE STARTED THIS THERE’S NO WAY WE WILL HAVE TIME OR GET INTO EVERYTHING. I’M AFRAID WE’LL HAVE TO LEAVE IT THERE, THAT SO MANY RICH INSIGHTS HERE, IT’S JUST AN INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT BOOK. IN THE FATE AGAIN, PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING THAT AFFECTS POLICY, READ THIS BOOK. YOU SAY YOU’RE NOT A POLICY GUY, AND THAT’S ONE OF THE THINGS WE TALK ABOUT A LOT ON THE SHOW AND THERE’S A WHOLE HOST OF THINGS THAT I WANT TO FOLLOW UP ON ON THIS INCREDIBLE BOOK BUT FOR NOW, THANK YOU SO MUCH. WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT.>>THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.>>ALL RIGHT. LET’S TALK A BIT ABOUT KATRINA. THAT GUY, HE’S NO TRUMP SUPPORTER HE USED TO WORK ON WALL STREET AND IS A DEMOCRAT BUT HE DISCOVERED CANDIDATE TRUMP UNDERSTOOD AND FELT THAT THESE POLICIES HAVE RIPPED THE HEART OUT OF COMMUNITY ACROSS COMMUNITY AND PRESIDENT TRUMP SPOKE AND UNDERSTOOD THAT MANUFACTURING WAS REALLY A BIG PART OF US.>>IT WAS A HUGE PART OF IT. MY HEART GOES OUT TO COMMUNITIES LIKE THAT. MANY COMMUNITIES ARE LIKE THAT, WE HAVE TO LOOK AT THESE COMMUNITIES AND TEACH THEM THAT THEY THEMSELVES ARE ACCOUNTABLE BECAUSE WHEN YOU CONSTANTLY ELECT, AS PRESIDENT TRUMP FAMOUSLY SAID, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE, HE HAS TOLD THESE COMMUNITIES YOU HAVE VOTED FOR DEMOCRATS FOR NEARLY 40 YEARS AND THEIR COMMUNITIES HAVE JUST GONE FURTHER DOWN THE DRAIN. WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY NOW WITH DONALD TRUMP TO FIX ALL OF THAT. IF THEY COME TO THE TABLE THERE ARE OPPORTUNITY ZONES OUT THERE. IVANKA TRUMP AND WORKFORCE INITIATIVES, THERE ARE SO MANY RESOURCES AVAILABLE MADE BY PRESIDENT TRUMP TO TURN BACK THE TIME AND A SENSE OF MAKING GARY INDIANA GREAT AGAIN. THE QUESTION IS, ARE THE PEOPLE OF GARY INDIANA GOING TO FINALLY VOTE REPUBLICAN SO THEIR LIVES CAN FINALLY CHANGE.>>ONE OF THE THINGS I FOUND ON THE CAMPAIGN, REMEMBER BARACK OBAMA A MONTH BEFORE SAID. [INAUDIBLE]>>MAYBE HE DOES HAVE A MAGIC WAND BECAUSE NOW YOU GO TO THESE TOWNS AND YOU DO SEE A LOT OF THESE JOBS COMING BACK. YOU MENTIONED MANUFACTURING JOBS, WHAT ABOUT CONSTRUCTION.>>FROM PORTLAND OREGON TO PORTLAND MAINE, ALL YOU WOULD SEE IN CITIES, BUILDINGS BEING ERECTED, APARTMENT BUILDINGS, FACTORIES, WE ARE BUILDING THINGS IN AMERICA. IT’S A NICE THING TO SEE. REMEMBER HILLARY CLINTON, SHE WENT TO THESE TOWNS IN WEST VIRGINIA AND PENNSYLVANIA AND THEY SAID THE COLD JOBS ARE NEVER COMING BACK TO MORGAN A DESTROY EVERY COLD JOBS. SHE DIDN’T CARE ABOUT THOSE WORKERS BUT TRUMP SAID WERE COMING TO HELP SAVE YOUR JOBS.>>IN THE ENERGY REVOLUTION IS A BIG PART OF IT.>>YOU CAN EVEN UNDERSTAND THE AMERICAN ECONOMY OVER THE PAST TEN YEARS IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND THE SHALE OIL AND GAS REVOLUTIONS. WE’LL WIPE OUT ALL THE COAL JOBS AND NATURAL GAS JOBS, POWER JOBS POWER JBS POWER JOBS, IT’S AMAZING.>>YOU THINK IT’S CRAZY THE FIRST TIME IN THEM BERNIE SANDERS THE OTHER WEEK WAS SOMETHING EVEN MORE LOONY.>>IT GETS MORE AND MORE LOONY AS WE GO DOWN THIS PATH. I’M SURE THE NEXT YEAR WILL BE HILARIOUS.>>THAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ELITISTS AND THE GROUP OF GENIUSES THAT HAVE RUN THE COUNTRY INTO THE GROUND. PEOPLE WHO SAY LET’S TAKE A STEP BACK, FIGURE OUT WHAT’S WRONG AND FIX IT.

  1. Celebrities got rich cause the working people keep paying their ticket increase. Companies keep buying up the small businesses or put them out of business so they can make more money. How can the middle class keep up with big business that sell their goods cheaper cause they buy more at a discount price? Insurance companies kept buying out the smaller companies until they were all gone, then started buying the bigger ins companies.

  2. Here's a flaw: less than 20% of people in the U.S. read books on anything like a regular basis. Other people have seen this coming as well: Kevin Phillips's WEALTH AND DEMOCRACY details the policies and politics that caused much of this dislocation. But Andrew Jackson's VETO OF THE BANK OF THE UNITED STATES BILL says it all just as well as it's ever been said — our government lends itself to this sort of abuse unless the people keep their hands on the tiller at every election.

  3. If I am understanding what he’s saying, intelligence has little to do with becoming wealthy. Only going to the big name colleges? If that is right the why was so much of America build by the mass’. Having a degree for many of the wealthy has little to do withe brains. More with how much daddy left them. The wealthy don’t have are majority of high IQ’s. Just advantage of rich parents. How many people living in tents, cardboard boxes& , cars have degrees, master degrees from institutes of higher learning ? Now compare that with a high school drop out still bring home a paycheck. It may not be much but there is no tent in their life.
In today’s world it’s not what you know or how many degrees or the school you graduated.. But who you know that will help you.
A brain is a terrible thing to waste.
    Get it real.

  4. While I am a Trump supporter and agree that a large portion of the citizenry was left behind by decades of colonial coastal elitism, (something I've been saying for well over 30 years now) I'm just a tad concerned about the near-Bolshevekian disdain for education being promoted here.

  5. Actual 'class' in America is an individuals behavior. Education needs a revolution, the 'elites' believe in obviously bad science, lots of non sense from politicized professors. Peer pressure weeds out the creative, logical thinkers in current system. Employing  some one because they succeeded in sitting through commie indoctrination invites more hell.

  6. Elite colleges are just a way to keep the people who follow the elite and their kids all on top of their system of pirivilege, while claiming it's white privilege that is destroying America. It's RICH people privilege. They want to control the country from the coastlines.

  7. Fux News featuring a discussion on fairness and equality, who'd a thunk it. Can only presume Fux are experiencing a significant ratings drop or their extreme right-wing owners are sensing which way the winds blowing. I look forward to the more obnoxious of their scum reporters getting the boot soon.

  8. I know a man with 6 kids and a loving wife and a job welding…I would say he is about the richest man i know. Sure is a happy fellow.

  9. Not to knock Trump in this instance but McDonalds sucks! The food is mostly terrible, highly GMO ingredients, not good for you and one of the reasons there is so much sickness, heart attacks, disease among minorities because they are the only chain which is guaranteed to open in low income areas all the time.

  10. The elites work 60 plus hours a week why is it that the poor is so jealous? Plain and simple rich people have rich ways, poor people have poor ways. Work hard to succeed and stop looking over your shoulder at everyone else.

  11. please President Trump go after the Federal reserve and help the American people to get out of debt once and for all in the control their own money

  12. Why bring on a book as brilliant as this then deminish it by speaking on the very front row whose dollars and influence destroyed this country in the first place.
    How inauthentic.

  13. The Bible no where condemns wealth. Jesus talked about money more than heaven and hell combined. There are more than 2000 verses dealing with money and possessions.

  14. I have talent and motivation i make custom hand created jewelry no one else does what i do thats just one of many skills ive taught mself and i will never work for anyone thats worth more than any degree my point people with degrees are snobbish and they look like this guy you can have your degree that is nothing but a word

  15. Jay v,Remember, it's the LOVE of money not money that is the root of all evil..Money is neutral by itself. It's what you do with that money that matters. REMEMBER what Jesus said about the poor widow?

  16. I like the little divisive "coastal elites"….why not just say "global oligarchs"….don't divide this country…this is a global problem

  17. It's not working poor It's working-class those with callus on their hands education doesn't indicate intelligence lock of education doesn't indicate lack of intellect. Let's face it most college professors I just High functioning savants. Just wacky professors barely able to find the exit door. And should stay the hell out of subjects that they have no understanding or comprehension of. Illiterate idiot is still an idiot

  18. I strongly disagree all people who go to state and community collages are back road too!! The pay is divided and the tax structure gets the high medium !! The tax goes DOWN at 250 -300 so if you achieve 150, 175 it gets eaten by tax!!!

  19. Just in Case you don't Know the effects of Trickle Down Wealth:
approx 21 TRILLION Dollars DEBT in the USA
and…. the odd things is….. the
TOP 1% over 40 Years (since Reagan) INCREASED by 21 TRILLION Dollars

  20. The big corporations get a whole bunch of people dependent on them for livelihood, and then throw them away for cheap labor overseas. And then they promote a "Consumer Driven Economy". They're insane.

  21. The problem with the division of wealth in America stems from special interest terrorists stealing money from those who earned it to give it to people who did not earn it and provide no value to our culture or economy.

  22. Socialism is inevitable.

The choice is not between Capitalism or Communism

but between Democratic Socialism or Fascism.

  23. The rich who make their money off of the poor, always snoot their condescending noses down at the people who make them rich, and put food on their tables, not a new thing, they're soulless hypocrites.

  24. A real American man has no chance to earn a living doing honest work….most of my life I've witnessed this first hand. We can't build houses, for example, because the criminal industry hires only illegal Mexicans. Unskilled workers have no chance to be hired due to illegal aliens, they next turn to crime. If you want to attend school for an education you will have to fight gang bangers that are intentionally shipped over to your neighborhood not only to make it impossible to study but to ravage your neighborhood and target young girls. You can be successful if you are willing to be a crook like Clinton family and Bernie Madoff. Zuckerberg is a shining example as well as Bezos and Soros.

  25. the elite laugh at poeple that eat at mcdonolds because your eating human baby meat of the victims the elite sacrifice to lucifer

  26. Republicans know nothing about Socialism, yet they walk around blabbing nonsense, revealing their ignorance with every word they utter.

  27. Jobs will be more and more taken over by robots and ai. So all money will flow to a few people controlling those companies. If you don’t tax those people wealth will flow to a very small group and lots will be really poor. Something you can already see in the US. Look at facebook, in comparison with 20 years ago only a few people work there for such a big organization.

  28. Donald Trump is the saviour of the Free West. But leave Kongeriget Danmark alone, otherwise I will become anti American in my old age and we will become allies of Russia. Best wishes from the Netherlands.

  29. They need to take some of that tariff money and create a jobs program sorta like FDR after the great depression. The problem across America is the good paying jobs are gone. That is not just blue collar jobs. A bigger problem is the a loss of good paying jobs that require a college degree. Those jobs are gone too. Nobody talks about that. Checking groceries at Walmart is now a good job in most places. It's kinda insult to injury when they cite uneducated people because truth be told it doesn't matter. Why would you sign up for a college degree that cost between $60 to $100 thousand dollars when those jobs have been outsourced or automated? The industrial complex that was once the engine of America is gone. All you have now is big corporations that funnel the wealth to the elite class. This fundamental shift over the last three decades has left much distress in it's wake. Worse yet, Dave Chippelle was absolutely correct when he said "Trump is playing poor white people's greatest hits", which would suggest Trump is pandering. Yeah, that is true. People see that. People are not stupid. Many voted for Trump just for spite.

  30. How come the Socialists never talk about the harsh gap between
    1) the people that work there asses off
    and
    2) the people that sit around and complain?

When a teenage worker tells their boss 'I am boared' the boss will help that young worker understand all the things that need to be cleaned.

Needless to say, people that work at a young age think twice before they complain. People that don't work complain easily about anything.
